The Southlanders Gospel Quartet

My father & his family have been involved in gospel music for over 40 years and today is the first time that I had the chance to share it with my kids.  My father (singing lead) & my brother (singing bass) are both in the group.
As I sat and listened, I realized that I had [...]

Thank you, uh..thank you very much

Wrapped up our second day in Memphis with a trip to the Pink Palace, lunch on Beale St., and the afternoon at Mud Island.  A pretty full day indeed.
This evening, we’re going to watch the ducks leave the lobby of the Peabody and then grab a nice dinner.  We’ve got another full day on tap [...]

Walkin’ in Memphis

As the final event in Mackenzie’s birthday celebration, we’ve traveled to Memphis for a long weekend.  We arrived around mid-day and spent the afternoon touring the Gibson Guitar Factory, visiting the Rock & Soul Museum, and eating ribs at the Rendezvous Restaurant.  Wait….who’s birthday celebration is this?  Cause it sounds right up my alley!  [...]

The Good Dog

I guess we got lucky when we got our dog, Holly.  We could have gotten a temperamental puppy, but she is very easy going for the most part.  The girls (Mackenzie specifically) love to dress her up, carry her around, and do all sorts of crazy things with her.  She just seems to roll with [...]

The Silver Bullets

Last week, my folks attended an Airstream rally in Bethalto, IL and the local newspaper took notice.

Here’s a link to the full story.

Take a bow

Last week, the girls wrapped up the Summer Drama camp with a performance of Once Upon an Island Jr.  They always enjoy the drama camps and it’s amazing what a group of kids can put together in 2 weeks time.
Here’s a shot of the girls after the final curtain.

Surf’s up!

We had an opportunity recently to attend a customer appreciation event at a water park. The kids had quite a time on all the slides and what not.
Here’s a shot of them boogie boarding on a wave machine. Sure looks like fun but I don’t think it would work for fat guys.

Shark!

We’re celebrating a milestone birthday for my father-in-law by spending a week at a beach house in Florida  with the whole family.  The place we’re staying is in Carrabelle Beach.  We’re right on the bay across from St. George’s Island.  At low tide, the water recedes and you get an idea of all the marine [...]

Spring Fiddler’s Convention

I just returned from my bi-annual trip to Branson, MO to attend the Ozark Mountain Fiddler’s Convention.  For the past 9 years +, I’ve attended this event with a handful of guys that I know who play guitar and enjoy camping and pickin’ for a couple of days.
The crowd seems a little smaller than it used [...]

Spring Fishing Trip

For the past few years, I have been meeting my Father & my Brother on Kentucky Lake for a little spring crappie fishing.  It never fails that we’re either a week early or a week late.  So we typically end up bluegill fishing, which can be a lot of fun in itself.
This year was no [...]
