Fiddler’s Convention

Much of my free time this week has been spent starting to organize the semi-annual trip to Branson, MO for the purpose of attending the Ozark Mountain Old Time Fiddler’s Convention.

Several years ago ( 9 I think, but I’ve lost track), a group of guys that I know began making this twice a year pilgrimiage to camp, play guitar & just hang out.  Sometimes there have been as few as two of us, but this year we’re expecting 8 to attend at least a portion of the weekend.

There are many events throughout the country that feature amature musicians gathering to compete, attend live performances, and participate in informal jam sessions.  It’s the latter of these activities that has drawn us to Branson so many times.  The folks in attendance play a variety of traditional, old tyme, & bluegrass music on traditional folk/bluegrass instruments.  These include guitar, up-right bass, banjo, mandolin, & Dobro.

We’ll depart this year on Thursday and camp for the weekend, returning home on Sunday morning.  I don’t expect to blog this event, but maybe I can snap a few photos.

Here’s a shot of one of the jam sessions that was posted on a website about these gatherings.  Yours truly is in the photo.  🙂

Cheers,
Braddog

Seriously, looks like it’ll be a fun time!

  2. There’ve been a few dulcimer’s, penny whistles & saws over the years.
