2015 – Little Mermaid

The girls just wrapped the winter performance of the Little Mermaid.  Madison was cast as Flounder, Ariel’s sidekick, while Mackenzie was in the ensemble for a few of big song & dance numbers.

Here’s a shot of each of them, and links to the Flickr Albums where there are many more photos.

Labor Day 2014

Or, as my brothers-in-law like to call it, The Annual Meat-Fest. That’s because I BBQ all weekend long, and there’s enough for leftovers and doggy bags.

This year, I let one of them drive the menu. They asked for:
– Pork Steaks – Saturday Lunch
– Brisket – Saturday Dinner
– Pulled Pork – Sunday Lunch
– Ribs – Sunday Dinner

I bought all the meat, but Saturday night I decided there was no.way that we needed all that. So I scratched the pulled pork. Still, that’s a whole lot of protein.

Here’s a couple of fun shots from the weekend.

2014 Honduras -Day 1

Many of you know that I’ve signed up for a mission trip to Honduras. Well, I left home at 3:20 am this morning and landed in San Pedro Sula, Honduras at 11:10am.

After waiting a bit for my sponsor and ride from the airport, we finally arrived at the Gran Sula Hotel around 2:30pm

We grabbed a bite to eat in the hotel diner and now we will spend the afternoon getting medicines ready for a couple of days of medical clinics.

A few shots from my balcony where a festival is raging in the park across the street.

More to come as the week progresses.

Baby You Can Drive My Car

That’s my baby girl, and now she can drive my car.  As promised, here’s the final installment of the series of posts about Madison’s 16th birthday.  This morning, we were at the DMV when they opened for her to take her driving test.  Suffice to say, she passed.

Yes Madison’s birthday was a couple of days ago, but we continue to celebrate her Sweet 16.  On Friday night, she had friends over and they hung out in my basement.

One of Madison’s current “likes” is the Disney movie, Frozen.  We have a friends who makes amazing sugar cookies and we asked her if she would bake some for Madison’s party with the Frozen theme.  She graciously agreed, and the result is these amazing cookies.

Okay, I think I’ll only have one more birthday update to make and that will be when Madison finally gets her driver’s license next week.

2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,100 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 52 trips to carry that many people.

New Camera

I’m interested in photography, but frankly I haven’t made the investment in time or equipment to get better at the hobby. At the same time, I’ve been extremely dissatisfied with our point & shoot camera.

So to split the difference between replacing our point & shoot camera and replacing our Rebel XTi with a newer DSLR, I opted for a “bridge” camera. This category of camera looks like a DSLR but without the interchangeable lenses. It does however have a fast lens with 24X optical zoom. That’s the equivalent of a >600mm zoom lens on a DSLR. Hopefully, this camera is simple enough for the family to use, but flexible enough for me to continue to learn more about photography by leveraging all the manual shooting modes.

Its the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200

One of my objectives is to see how it performs in low light, zoom scenarios, like the girls performing on stage. Frankly with a f2.8, 600mm zoom lens, I’m hoping this becomes the camera that we lug to those events rather than my old DSLR with a really slow zoom lens.

I’ll be posting a few photos from the camera in a Flickr set call Lumix FZ200.
