2015 – Carie’s Birthday Wish

Many of you know that I started a new job earlier this year.  It takes me to New York City at least once each month (I’ve been twice in 3 weeks, but that’s another story).  For her birthday this year, Carie talked repeatedly about wanting me to go to the Today Show Plaza in New York and hold up a birthday sign during the Today Show.  I thought she was joking at first, but she continued to mention it.

When I found out that I had to be in New York on her birthday week, I decided what the heck.  Madison & Mackenzie conspired with me to create the sign.  I snuck it into my luggage and made plans to hit the Today Show early one morning of my trip.

I showed up before dawn today not knowing what to expect.  Turns out, I was the first person in line.  I grabbed a spot on the rail and hoped that I’d get in one of the camera shots.  The girls tipped Carie off and they recorded the show and watched for the birthday wish.  I’ll figure out how to save the video off of the DVR, but in the meantime here are a few photos of Carie’s Birthday Wish.

Here’s what it looks like to be first in line.  You line up at this random light pole, cause that’s what the security guard told me to do.

One of the producer’s took this photo for me.  The sign says “Happy Birthday to the real Carie Bradshaw”.  (Part of it is hard to read.)

Baby You Can Drive My Car

That’s my baby girl, and now she can drive my car.  As promised, here’s the final installment of the series of posts about Madison’s 16th birthday.  This morning, we were at the DMV when they opened for her to take her driving test.  Suffice to say, she passed.

Sweet 16!

Madison turned 16 yesterday.  It’s been a wonderful couple of weeks celebrating this milestone.  Last weekend, we honored her birthday tradition and had dinner at the Melting Pot in St. Louis.

Then we celebrated her actual birthday on Wednesday night with dinner, balloons, cake, and a few presents. Katy Perry tickets took the cake!

Friday, she’s having friends over and in a few days, we’ll head down to the DMV to get her driver’s license. In the mean time, here’s a link to a few more photos.

Don’t Cry for Me!

One last item event as part of Mackenzie’s birthday….theatre tickets!

The girls went to the Fabulous Fox Theatre and saw Evita last night.  I (fortunately) didn’t go, but here are a couple of craptastic cell phone pics from the event.  By all accounts, they had a super time.

2013 Mackenzie’s Birthday

Well the month of September has passed and that means we’ve completed the celebration events for Mackenzie’s Birthday.  She’s turned 14 on the 28th and I’d say she had a pretty good birthday.  She kicked off the festivities with a party at home with a dozen or so of her friends.  We kicked the boys out around 10:30 and the girls slept over.  I’m not sure they actually slept, but they were here all night.  I finally got to bed around 4:00am.

We spent the actual birthday with a quiet dinner, cake, and presents at home.  She got some new luggage for her 8th grade class trip and other travel that’s planned next year, and theatre tickets.  Stay tuned for more on that.

Here are a few shots of the festivities.

Teenagers

Full price at the movies, adult tickets for 4 at every attraction, and everyone orders off of the full menu.  These are the consequences of Mackenzie turning 13.  As we typically do, we spent the month of September celebrating Mackenzie’s birthday.  She had a sleep over, took doughnuts to her class, shopped with her mother, and accepted an IOU for a her birthday gift (we’re waiting to see if there’s an Apple announcement this month).

We capped off the festivities with a trip to the Top of the Riverfront for Sunday brunch.  Here are a few pics of that trip and our family time with birthday cake.  Happy birthday Mackenzie!  We love you very much.

Happy Birthday Madison!

We’ve spent the past couple of weekends celebrating Madison’s Birthday.  Last weekend, she had a party with friends.  This weekend, it’s a family thing.  After the girls competed in the district vocal competition, we headed to St. Louis.  We spent a couple of hours in the St. Louis Art Museum and then headed for an early dinner at The Melting Pot.  It’s a fondue restaurant where we had a cheese fondue course, a salad course, an entree course, and of course a chocolate fondue dessert course.

Here’s a shot of the birthday girl.  I had roses delivered to the table for my 3 girls, and the waitress brought a champagne flute of Sprite with a strawberry on the rim and a candle in the strawberry.  We had a great time.  Today is her actual birthday and we’ll have family over (to watch the Daytona 500).
